#1 Are you interested for yourself or someone else?

Master Rick Shin
- TKD will help your kids with speed (power, focus, balance) -

Katherine (Parent): For My Son.
Rick Shin (Master): How old is he?
Katherine (Parent): He is 5 years old.
Rick Shin (Master): that's a great age to start!

Above conversation begins with "How did you hear about us?" between a parent and a master. Regardless of what response a parent might give you, it's always good to answer with "that's great!" The reason is because the word ‘Great?gives a positive energy as a response to another response. A compliment always gives the other person self reassurance and confidence. Therefore, using the word 'Great' will allow you to have a positive and comfortable conversation with a parent (customer).

An important thing to remember is, through your conversation with your customer, you need to find out what your customer wishes to accomplish by learning Taekwondo.

#2 Is your child currently involved in any activities now?

Rick Shin (Master): Is your child currently involved in any activities now?
Katherine (Parent): Yes, he is currently involved in soccer. (Baseball…etc.) / No, he is not really involved in any activities now.. etc.

Through this conversation, you are able to determine how athletically involved a student is. Whether the parent's answer to the above question is a yes or a no, you should answer by using the word 'Great'.

Rick Shin (Master): "That's great. Because TKD will help your kids with speed (power, focus, balance)."

This answer works whether the student is currently involved in other activities or not.

There is a book written by Kenneth Blanchard 'Whale Done!: The Power of Positive Relationships'. To write his book, he has worked with whales and studied their reactions to certain actions. When a whale did something good, the trainer complimented the whale. The author said the trainer made an environment for his whale to be complimented rather than being scolded. Masters, how about using the word 'Great' more frequently with your students and parents?
